Teeth Whitening
One of the biggest industries in dentistry is teeth whitening. People all over the world strive to have their teeth just a little whiter. But most of them do not achieve this goal to the extent they wish. This is due to people buying faulty products that do not work. If the product does work, some people do not use it as instructed. For this reason, teeth don't get whiter and people don't get happier about their teeth. There are some products which do effectively whiten teeth and if used correctly, can help people get the white smile they have always wanted.
The Truth about Teeth Whitening
The color one a person's teeth depends on many factors. The habits of the person have an effect. Also, genetics play a role. If a person is genetically made up to have yellow teeth, little can be done to improve them. They will be yellow for the rest of the person's life. With teeth whitening products, the person can expect some improvement as far as whiteness is concerned, but miracles should not be expected. Genetics are the instructions to the body telling it how to look, function and interact with the world. Changing our instructions to better serve us is not possible at this time. Fortunately, the color of a person's teeth is not life or death; it is more of just an aggravation to have yellow teeth. Just the same, people use teeth whitening techniques to improve the color of their teeth and to feel better about themselves.
How Habits Affect Teeth Color
The color of your teeth will depend on your habits. First, if you want to have whiter teeth, you need to brush your teeth. Ideally, you would brush your teeth after each meal. It would also be ideal to floss twice per day. This will help clean in between your teeth to ensure no build-up of plaque. The first line of defense for your teeth is your own brushing of them. After this, what you put in your mouth will affect their color. Most notably, the color of liquids your drink will affect the color. For example, if you drink dark fluids, you will cause your teeth to become darker (farther from white). Drinking dark tea will also cause them to become darker.
Teeth Whitening Techniques
If you need to whiten your teeth, you can use various methods. Almost all of these methods will use one of two chemicals: carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. These are two bleaching chemicals. In other words, you use some method of application of one of these two chemicals to the outside of your teeth and leave it one for some length of time. After several applications, you will start to see a change in color. This is the overall method of teeth whitening all products employ. If you want to whiten your teeth and want to know if a product will work, check the ingredients in the product. If the product does not contain either of these chemicals, it is unlikely it will work.
